It’s fall, y’all. Autumn is officially here on Long Island, and it’s time to dress up and refresh your home will all of the season’s beautiful warm hues—starting, where else, but your very own front porch. Interior designer Robin Bradley of Robin Bradley Designs has 10 terrific tips and tricks that will have everyone falling in love with fall and the style it inspires.

“I recommend looking at antique shops for lovely vintage décor. Beautiful decorating rarely includes all new items, and for the collected feel, try to add items with stories and age,” Bradley says. “Be sure to include natural materials and multiple textures for visual interest.”

Before you start any decorating project, Bradley notes, clean the porch. Remove any clutter including stray pots, dead plants or other similar items. Take down any leftover summer décor that cannot be incorporated into your fall theme. Sweep the porch and wipe down your front door with a damp rag, and get rid of any cobwebs with a broom. Now you’re ready to begin!

It all begins with hanging a simple wreath and a coir welcome mat, Bradley suggests, and then adding layers of warmth and depth to the display with colorful pumpkins and mums. The porch is completed with a small table and cozy Adirondack chair.

  2. Garland is the perfect complement for a fall wreath. Draping garland around the front door with a wreath in the middle creates a warm welcome for visitors. You can also wrap garland around the handrail if you have a railing.

Group the colorful plants in containers, and If you have steps up to your front porch, consider placing different sized mums in varying heights on the sides of the stairs. This can look spectacular as guests approach your home.
  6. A cute wooden pumpkin wagon is perfect for displaying fall décor like gourds, flowers, corn or pumpkins.
