The Long Island Marathon is back, the Greenport Maritime Festival sails in, the legendary Culper Spy Ring  returns, military history is on parade and classic cars get their motors running once more in five fantastic events to fill your Long Island weekend with fun.

It’s back! For more than four decades, runners from Long Island and across the country have laced ‘em up to participate in the annual Long Island Marathon Weekend.  Since the 1970s, when it started with just a marathon, Long Island Marathon Weekend has grown into an event for all skill levels, first with the addition of the Half Marathon in the early 1980s and later with the addition of a 10K race, 5K race, and Kids Fun Run. All runners are invited to participate in this annual Long Island staple.

The Three Village area is full of hidden intrigue and stories of how America’s first spy ring secretly came together to provide General George Washington with the information he needed to turn the tide of the American Revolution. Culper Spy Day is a collaboration of local historical and cultural organizations that host diverse events to tell the amazing history behind the Culper Spy Ring and give visitors the chance to visit with area groups to learn about the patriots who risked their lives hundreds of years ago.

The Museum of American Armor rolls out its armor collection, featuring many of the operational military vehicles in the museum’s collection while, with an additional donation, offering a unique opportunity for families to ride inside a Half Track, Command Car or troop transport. A parade of history, the museum hosts an operational collection of over 40 armor vehicles, including the mighty Hellcat tank destroyer, halftracks, armored cars similar to those that liberated the Nazi death camps, Vietnam-era combat vehicles, and the massive M48 Patton tank that would have confronted Soviet armor in the disastrous event the Cold War became an open conflict.

Celebrate the history of this historic waterfront village from the East End Seaport Museum to the Village Blacksmith Shop, from the Columbia Fishing Schooner to the Carousel in Mitchell Park, with live music, Irish step dancing, the U.S. Power Squadron, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, craft and nautical demonstrations, artisan craft vendors, food trucks, oysters, wine and beer tastings and more.
